Chalet in Megeve, Megève     EUR 3,800,000

Brand new chalet for sale in Megève in the French Alps

To be able to build a new chalet in Megève only 10 minutes (900m) from the centre and just 500 metres from the Rochebrune telecabine is very rare which makes this ski chalet for sale very special.

The Alpine ski property will offer 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains including a beautiful sunset vista across the Les Varins mountains and a good view of the Mont Blanc. The main orientations of the property are south and east to maximise the views and the sun.

The five bedroom detached chalet is built over three floors and offers 316m² of luxury space including home cinema and an indoor heated swimming pool and large windows offering amazing views of the mountains.

On the ground floor you will find the bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a large ski storage area. On the first floor, you will find the dining and kitchen areas as well as the living area separated from the other areas by a modern fire place.

The property is being built in a style which echoes traditional Savoyard architecture, using local wood and stone, while the interiors will be decorated in a modern way with all the high specification facilities expected from a luxury chalet of this level.

The developer has already completed the foundations of the property, which means that you will be able to tailor the property to your own requirements and be able to use this fantastic property for the 2014/15 ski season.

The ski chalet is situated on a 980m² plot which is surrounded by ‘agricole’ lands designated as undevelopable which means nothing can be built around this chalet. Sometime is it possible to get one, maybe two sides of property which will remain undisturbed, but very rarely does a chalet come enveloped in a ‘security blanket’ such as this.

Megève

Megève was one of the first ski resorts in the French Alps and today it is a unique place with an alpine atmosphere reminiscent of the old alpine way of life. Its history, atmosphere and culture attract an international audience and its skiing is first class with snow lovers enjoying access to one of the world’s largest lift-linked ski areas.

Equally significant is its range of shopping, restaurants, facilities and organised activities.

Megève’s ski area boasts 300 kilometres of marked trails and a high-speed lift system ensures a quick ride to the top. With an average of 200cm of snow falling every year, the trails are well covered and this is supported by more than 175 snow cannons.

The wider ski area is called the ‘Evasion Mont Blanc’ domain which opens up some 140km of additional pistes to those in Megève. The Mont Blanc Unlimited Ski Pass unites the five ski areas in the Chamonix valley, with unlimited access to the Grands Montets, plus one day in Courmayeur.

Two snow parks and a half-pipe are available for snowboarding.

History

The village has existed since the thirteenth century and this shown best by the well preserved medieval town centre featuring narrow cobbled streets intertwining the historic buildings. It used to be a small rural village until the beginning of the twentieth century. Everything changed when Baroness de Rothschild chose the village as a French alternative to Switzerland’s St. Moritz.

She had the resort’s fist four star hotel built, the Palace Mont d’Arbois, and persuaded French railways to open a special line from Paris to neighbouring St Gervais, thereby opening-up the tourist potential of this wonderful area.

The Royal families and the aristocracy of Europe began staying in the resort by the 1920s and with King Albert of Belgium as the luxury hotel’s ‘sponsor’, the resort quickly became a favourite watering hole of aristocrats as well as tycoons from the worlds of business and finance.

Getting there

Megève is one of the most easily accessible resort of the French Alps. By road, air or train the journey to Megève is extremely straight forward with Geneva Airport just 75 minutes away by car and 2hrs from Lyon St-Exupery Airport.
